Meals on Wheels
Purpose
To meet the nutritional needs of seniors or those with health problems, in Dundas, who cannot, for any reason, prepare meals themselves or otherwise arrange for them.
Who may recieve these meals?
Residents within the boundaries of the community of Dundas, excluding areas beyond the railway line at Sydenham and York Roads and beyond the Conservation Area on Governor's Road.
How much do meals cost?
Please phone 905-627-5461 for the current rate. Limited financial assistance may be available if requested and after assessment. You will be given ONE MONTH'S notice of any price increase.
How are meals paid for?
Invoices are mailed at the end of each month. Your payment is due immediately and should reach this office within 14 days after you receive your invoice.
How are meals delivered?
Meals are delivered in disposable containers, by volunteers screened by a Criminal Reference Police Check.
Clients receive hot soup. Two slices of bread (white or brown), a main meal with vegetables and a dessert.
Where are meals prepared?
In the kitchens of Wentworth Lodge, a Long-Term Care facility within the City of Hamilton.
When are meals delivered?
Meals are delivered between 11:00
and 1:00 each day, Monday to Friday. Arrangements may be made for fewer than five meals per week.
Clients should be sure to have food supplies on hand in case weather conditions prevent deliveries from being made. According to your taste, we suggest: canned goods, such as ham or other meat, salmon, tuna, soups, vegetables and fruits, crackers, tea or coffee. We will try to notify you by 10:00 a.m. if meals are cancelled.
These meals may be obtained on a TEMPORARY BASIS if desired, when emergencies arise, such as convalescence, or when the person who usually prepared meals is on vacation, is ill, etc.
Can special diets be provided?
YES - for Diabetics, although little salt is used in the preparation of meals.
Also, Special Meals, such as pureed or chopped food can be accommodated.
