This service provides seniors, people with disabilities and chronic or prolonged illnesses with the following home support / community services:
Volunteer friendly visiting
Friendly Visiting provides friendship and companionship to isolated seniors or a person with a disability by introducing a volunteer who has similar interests. The visits usually take place in the service recipient’s home but they can also be a day trip, a luncheon, a picnic or even a shopping trip. For more information or to be matched to a friendly visitor, please email Jane at jallen@hamilton.ca or call 905-627-5461.
Volunteer friendly calling
Friendly Calling helps seniors remain in their own homes longer; live independently with quality of life; reduces seniors’ isolation and loneliness; and keeps them linked to and connected with their community. For more information or to be matched to a friendly caller, please call 905-627-5461.
Volunteer-assisted transportation to medical appointments
Volunteer drivers, using their own vehicles, will escort people to and from medical appointments. We need as much advance notice as possible to arrange the ride. There is a small fee for this service. For more information or register in this program, please email Mairi at mhouriga@hamilton.ca or call 905-627-5461.
Canada Post alert program
An added measure of security for seniors, people with disabilities and illnesses who live alone in their own homes.
In co-operation with Canada Post, we offer some added security to seniors and persons with disabilities who live in Dundas and the surrounding area. Letter carriers are alert to possible security issues during their regular delivery duties, Monday to Friday. If your mail is still in your mail box, the carrier will report it and we will follow up to assure your well-being. Call Dundas Community Services at 905-627-5461 or speak to your letter carrier to register for this program.
Community education of caregivers
We arrange seminars to support the caregivers of older adults. Professionals from many areas provide information and education on topics of interest to the community. For more information, please email Jane at jallen@hamilton.ca or call 905-627-5461.
Counselling, support and crisis intervention
Staff is available to assist you to fill in the many government forms necessary for Canada Pension, Old Age Security, Guaranteed Income Supplement and any other applications necessary to continue to collect all benefits possible. We can also help you cope with the everyday task of living in the community. For more information, please email Jane at jallen@hamilton.ca or call 905-627-5461.
